Description The Crown at Playhatch is a sixteenth-century cottage inn full of character. The Crown has a good reputation throughout Reading and surrounding areas and has been recommended in several guidebooks. The pub has an informal and relaxed ambience. Staff are friendly and the quality of the food is impressive and unique.
The lunchtime menu offers fresh salads (warm chicken salad, Greek salad, Thai beef salad), baguettes or sandwiches (crayfish, roast ham, steak), and main courses, including fajitas and tray-baked salmon. The evening menu includes these lighter snacks but features further succulent main courses (for example, fillet steak medallions and lamb kleftiko). There is also a monthly specials menu and a set two-course menu - any starter and main course from the specials menu for £15.20. For those with a sweet tooth, there is a great choice of tantalising rich desserts or, alternatively, you could try the plentiful cheese board.
The Crown's secluded garden and conservatory are perfect for summer. There are several log fires within the pub and there is an attached tap room (which can be used for private parties). The converted eighteenth-century thatched barn seats up to 70 and adds to the pub's great charm. Payment Types
